China's gold demand to reach 1,350 tonnes: WGC

SHANGHAI, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Annual gold demand among Chinese consumers is expected to reach 1,350 tonnes by 2017 from the current 1,132 tonnes, according to a World Gold Council (WGC) report.

Some Chinese customers purchased large amounts of gold jewelry and bars when there was a sharp fall in the price of gold last year. This might limit the country's gold consumption in 2014, according to the report titled "China's gold market: progress and prospects.

It is believed that Chinese consumers prefer physical gold like jewelry and bars.
