BEIJING, March 27 (Xinhua) -- China here on Thursday reiterated its call for calm and restraint over tensions in Ukraine.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei made the appeal at a daily press briefing, saying China hopes all parties involved can seek political means to solve the crisis through talks.

China upholds that every country's sovereignty and territorial integrity should be respected, Hong said, noting the current situation in Ukraine is rooted in complex historical and practical factors.

"China upholds fairness and objectiveness on the Ukraine issue," Hong said, adding that China is committed to helping ease the tensions through political means.

He noted that China had put forward a three-point proposal to resolve the issue, one of the points being a call for international financial institutions to discuss how to maintain the economic and financial stability of Ukraine. Hong said China will make constructive efforts in this regard.
