More Chinese ships sailing to MH370 search area in S. Indian Ocean - Xinhua

ABOARD JINGGANGSHAN, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese warship Jinggangshan is cruising at full throttle toward the patch of the southern Indian Ocean where an intensive search is under way for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.

The amphibious docking vessel, which was previously arranged to scour waters southwest of Sumatra, is expected to move into position west of the western Australian port of Perth on Sunday.

A Chinese naval flotilla of three vessels has already reached their target area -- some 1,100 nautical miles west of Perth -- to hunt for the ill-fated Boeing 777 plane.

Meanwhile, Chinese icebreaker Xuelong has also arrived in the area where Chinese airborne searchers spotted some suspicious objects on Monday, and a Chinese merchant ship has reached waters where French satellites detected some suspicious items.

In addition, more Chinese military and civilian vessels are en route to the southern Indian Ocean for the search mission.

BEIJING/PERTH, March 26 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese IL-76 aircraft reached the target area in the southern Indian Ocean on Wednesday morning and has begun searching for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.

Chinese special envoy meets Malaysian PM over MH370

KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese special envoy Zhang Yesui met here Wednesday with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak for discussions over the matter of missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.

Zhang, a Chinese vice foreign minister, is also expected to confer with Malaysia's acting transport minister, Hishammuddin Hussein, as well as the top brass of the airline. Full story

China promises support to MH370 relatives

BEIJING, March 25 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday has promised support for relatives of passengers after Malaysia announced missing Flight MH370 had crashed in the southern Indian Ocean.

The Chinese government has sent personnel to provide psychological support and legal aid to relatives of passengers in Beijing's Metro Park Lido Hotel, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said at a daily news briefing. Full story

BEIJING, March 25 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday urged international organizations and related countries to provide information that may help in the search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.

"It is an international search. China hopes international organizations and countries will provide Malaysia and China with valuable information to help us conduct better targeted search work," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei. Full story
