CANBERRA, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has sent a letter of condolences to her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi over the brutal attack in southwest China's Kunming city that left 29 civilians dead. The letter was made available on Thursday.

"On behalf of Australian Government and the people of Australia, I wish to extend condolences and deepest sympathy to the victims of the recent attack at Kunming railway station and their families, " Bishop said in the letter dated March 5.

"The Australian Government condemns this brutal attack on innocent people," she said.

"Like many Australians, I have been shocked by this violent and indiscriminate attack. My thoughts are with the Chinese people," Bishop said.

Australian Ambassador to China Frances Adamson also condemned the attack on Monday.

In her statement, Adamson said "Australians have been shocked by the violent and indiscriminate attack by a knife wielding mob at Kunming railway station resulting in multiple deaths and horrific injuries."

"The Australian Government condemns this brutal attack on innocent people and extends its condolences and deepest sympathy to the victims and their families."

More than 10 terrorist suspects stabbed and slashed passengers with long-bladed knives at the square and ticket hall of Kunming Railway Station on Saturday evening, killing 29 people and injuring more than 130 others.

Evidence show that the terrorist attack was planned and organized by separatist elements from Xinjiang of West China.
