MACAO, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- The number of visitor arrivals in Macao reached 29,324,822 last year, up by 4 percent year on year, and same-day visitors amounted to 15,056,359 to account for 51 percent of the total, according to figures released on Thursday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
Analyzed by place of residence, visitors from the Chinese mainland increased by 10 percent year on year to 18,632,207, of which 43 percent traveled to Macao under the Individual Visit Scheme.
Visitors from South Korea increased by 7 percent to 474,269, while those from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia and Japan decreased by 4 percent, 7 percent, 4 percent and 27 percent, respectively.
Besides, visitors from Britain and France posted year-on-year increase, but those from the United States, Australia and Canada registered decline.
In 2013, the average length of stay of visitors stood at 1.0 day, roughly unchanged as compared with 2012.
