Frigate commissioned for E China Sea fleet

SHANGHAI, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- A frigate was commissioned for the East China Sea fleet of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy on Wednesday.

The new escort vessel belongs to the new generation of Chinese-made light missile frigates and was named after Ji'an, a revolutionary base in south China's Jiangxi Province.

The ship, with hull number 586, will undertake patrol and escort missions and has anti-submarine capabilities.
