BEIJING, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Zhang Dejiang on Tuesday urged the strengthening of theoretical study of China's congress system to help it advance with the times.

Zhang, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the top legislature, made the remarks while attending the founding ceremony of an institute for NPC system study.

Zhang said the NPC system, the fundamental political system of China, has demonstrated superiority and vitality and has proved to be a system that suits China's national conditions and the times.
