BEIJING, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Organization Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee has allocated 59.1 million yuan (about 9.68 million U.S. dollars) to subsidize party members in need.
The money is part of the party membership dues collected from the CPC's 80 million members, according to a Monday statement from the department.
The money will mainly be used during the upcoming Spring Festival holiday, which is a holiday to celebrate the arrival of the Chinese lunar new year, for visiting and helping elderly or disabled party members, laid-off or poor party members, and the families of party members who died in disaster relief work.
The department also urged local CPC organization authorities to allocate additional money to ensure more party members are covered in the subsidy program, which it said is an important move to enhance the cohesive power within the CPC.
