BEIJING, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- A circular issued on Tuesday has put fresh impetus behind the Communist Party of China's (CPC) mass line campaign as the first phase nears its end, by urging officials to enhance implementation of its tenets.
Officials should take a "serious" and "strict" attitude toward the cleaning up of four undesirable work styles -- formalism, bureaucracy, hedonism and extravagance, according to the circular from the central leading group for the campaign.
Efforts should be made to ensure the results of the campaign can be seen and felt by the public and satisfy as many people as possible, it said.
It called for officials to study and carry out the instructions given by Chinese President Xi Jinping when he met senior Party officials of north China's Hebei Province who came to Beijing last week to report their jobs in practicing the campaign.
The circular urged a tougher punishment on disciplinary violations and strengthened supervision to ensure that all the problems are tackled.
It also demanded a long-term mechanism be built to prevent undesirable work styles, especially extravagant behavior.
During the meeting with Hebei officials, Xi, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, reminded them that they face stern challenges in implementing measures that they have decided to take during the campaign, as many will hurt the interests of someone.
Xi warned officials that the upcoming second phase of the mass line campaign will be greater in scale and the problems faced by the officials will be more specific and difficult.
He urged the officials to have a systemic design on how they are going to conduct the campaign and make sure that the whole campaign will be subject to supervision by the people.
The one-year mass line campaign was launched in June by China's leaders to boost ties between CPC officials, members and the people.
Being in charge of supervising campaign implementation in Hebei, Xi visited the province in July and September to inspect the local situation and give directions.
