BEIJING, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- China is calling for communication and consultation on the Syria issue and promotion of the Geneva II conference, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said here on Wednesday.
Hong made the remarks at a daily press briefing when asked to respond to a report that Lakhdar Brahimi,UN-Arab League Joint Special Representative for Syria, said Tuesday that the tripartite meeting of the UN, Russia and the United States failed to set a date for the long-delayed Syria peace talks in Geneva.
"It has become a general consensus in the international community that a political solution is the only realistic way out of the Syria issue," Hong said.
"We hope for a sense of urgency and continuity in communication and consultation to get the Geneva II conference started as soon as possible," Hong said.
China will continue to play a positive and constructive role in promoting a political solution to the Syria issue, Hong added.
