DAMASCUS, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- A mortar shell on Monday fell into the compound of the Chinese embassy in Damascus, slightly injuring a Syrian employee, according to a source from the embassy.
The mortar hit the embassy on Monday morning, damaging the compound's walls and shattering some windows.
The Syrian worker was injured by the mortar while cleaning one of the embassy's offices. He is being treated in a hospital nearby.
A Xinhua reporter who rushed to the scene shortly after saw some embassy staffers cleaning shrapnel and debris from the mortar attack.
The source said that the mortar may have been launched from the southern suburbs of Damascus.
