BEIJING, Sept. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- Ningxia in NW China is planning to explore the tourism market, seeking to build a distinctive international tourists destination for Muslim tourists, the region's tourism administration authorities said.
"Featuring the Muslim culture element, Ningxia is now trying to attract more and more attentions from Muslim tourists around the world," said Yang Liu, director of the Ningxia Tourism Bureaun Thursday.
More international air routes, especially those linking Ningxia and the Arab nations will be opened in the future, as transportation is still considered the bottleneck of tourism development, she said.
With a large Muslim population and the pivotal position on the ancient Silk Road, northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region was the exchange point between the Chinese and Arab cultures.
As the World Muslim Tour Operators Conference 2013 in Yinchuan, the capital city of Ningxia, tourism contracts with a total value of 3 billion yuan (490 million U.S. dollars) were signed between the Chinese tour operators and their counterparts from more than 20 countries and regions.
