BEIJING, Aug. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- The 4th Beijing Olympic City Sports and Culture Festival kicks off at the Beijing Olympic Park on August 8, with the aim to continue the Olympic spirit.
The 11-day festival, held in memory of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, will feature a full array of interesting sports-related activities that residents can all participate in.
This year, an amateur triathlon will be held at the venue, inviting participants to take a dip at the Water Cube, then transfer onto the Olympic Common Domain to finish the bike segment and end the arduous exercise with a run in the Bird’s Nest.
The event will also highlight Color Run, a five-kilometer-long untimed fun run to be celebrated by about 10,000 participants at the Beijing Garden Expo on August 10.
Another highlight should be the friendly football match between veteran Brazilian and Chinese players on August 10 at the Bird’s Nest. The Brazilian side will present legendary stars such as Pele, Zico, Carlos Alberto, Romário and Bebeto; the Chinese side, made up of former national team players, including Fan Zhiyi and Li Xiaopeng of the 2002 World Cup team, will be led by Bora Milutinović, who took China to its only World Cup qualification in 2002.
During the festival, the 9th Beijing International Sports Film Week will be staged, while exhibitions and educational activities are set to be unveiled.
More fun can be expected as there are a great number of entertaining competitive activities in disciplines including park volleyball, fixed-gear polo, 3-on-3 basketball matches and cage football.
