BEIJING, July 25 (Xinhua) -- China's top health authority on Thursday said the work of treating patients in the quake zone of the country's northwest Gansu Province is going smoothly.

The National Health and Family Planning Commission said that as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, 1,461 patients in the quake zone had received medical attention, including 194 patients in serious or critical conditions.

More than 800 of those patients received treatment at local county-level hospitals, and nearly 500 others were treated at township-level clinics, the commission said.

Another 79 seriously or critically injured patients were transported to provincial-level hospitals in Lanzhou, the provincial capital, for treatment. Another patient was sent to the city of Tianshui for medical treatment.

A total of 2,042 medical personnel are now working in the quake zone of Dingxi, including 36 health experts that were organized and dispatched by the commission, the commission said Thursday.

A 6.6-magnitude quake jolted the juncture of Minxian and Zhangxian counties in the city of Dingxi on Monday morning, resulting in 95 confirmed deaths, as of Tuesday.
