China maintains reasonable trade surplus: commerce minister

BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) -- China has managed to keep its trade surplus at 3 percent of its GDP for the last two years, a reasonable level by international standards, Minister of Commerce Chen Deming said Friday.

The surplus once stood at about 6 percent of the GDP at its highest point, Chen said at a press conference held on the sidelines of the ongoing annual session of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's national legislature. Full story

Doha trade talks should be pushed forward: commerce minister

BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Minister of Commerce Chen Deming said on Friday that the Doha round of trade talks should be further promoted in formulating new rules on world trade.

Chen said the Doha Development Agenda under the framework of the World Trade Organizations (WTO) should remain the main channel for multilateral trade talks despite the difficulties it had gone through.  Full story

BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Minister of Commerce Chen Deming said Friday major economies in the world should consider the spillover effect of their monetary policies and avoid drastic currency devaluation.

"Any major depreciation of the world's major currencies of the Japanese yen, the U.S. dollar and euro means great trouble for China and other emerging economies," Chen said at a press conference on the sidelines of the parliament's annual session.  Full story

China's e-commerce revenue hits over 1 trillion yuan in 2012: minister

BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) -- China's booming online commerce industry is expected to reap more than 1.1 trillion yuan (about 175 billion U.S. dollars) in revenue in 2012, Minister of Commerce Chen Deming said on Friday.

"The total revenue of online commerce is estimated to be around 1.1 trillion yuan (about 175 billion U.S. dollars) to 1.2 trillion in 2012," said Chen, noting that the exact figure was not available.  Full story

BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Minister of Commerce Chen Deming said Friday that the Chinese government will support domestic firms investing overseas that wish to safeguard their rights according to law.

BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming Friday urged politicians and entrepreneurs of the European Union to properly handle the solar panel friction with China to avoid greater losses for both sides.

"We hope to address the dispute through negotiations between Chinese and European companies and boost our industrial cooperation and seek third-party markets," Chen told a press conference on the sidelines of the annual session of the National People's Congress.  Full story

Commerce minister calls for transparency, inclusiveness in regional trade talks

BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Minister of Commerce Chen Deming said on Friday regional and sub-regional trade negotiations should be transparent and inclusive.

Chen said the United States has been promoting bilateral trade talks, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TTP) and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). China is also in talks with other Asian countries on possible free trade areas.  Full story

Commerce minister denies stagnation in opening up

BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Minister of Commerce Chen Deming on Friday pledged that China will open even wider to the outside world.
