BEIJING, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Top legislator Wu Bangguo on Thursday met with Thai Senate Speaker Nikom Wairatpanij in Beijing.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress(NPC), the country's top legislature, spoke highly of China-Thailand ties, citing progress in trade, economy and energy-related cooperation.

Wu said China's development of friendly ties with Thailand is an established diplomatic policy that works for the common interests of both sides.

"We would like to work with Thailand to carry our friendship forward, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and boost the development of China-Thailand relations," Wu said.

Wu underlined the NPC's commitment to developing ties with the upper house and the lower house of the Thai National Assembly, calling for more efforts to share experience in governance.

Nikom said developing friendly ties with China is the consensus of the Thai royal family, government, legislature and society.

Nikom said the Thai National Assembly will make contributions toward boosting bilateral cooperation in politics, economy, culture and tourism.
