Backgrounder: Key national congresses in CPC history
BEIJING, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- A spokesman for the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said Wednesday the new lineup of top CPC leaders will meet domestic and foreign journalists after the congress.
Upon the conclusion of the congress, which will be held from Nov. 8 to 14, the 18th CPC Central Committee and the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection will hold their first plenary sessions respectively to elect their new leading bodies, spokesman Cai Mingzhao said at a press conference.
Members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the new CPC Central Committee will meet Chinese and foreign journalists after the plenary session of the Central Committee, Cai said.
The congress, regarded as the most important political event in China this year, has attracted more than 1,700 overseas reporters, far exceeding the number at the congress five years ago.
Xi Jinping appointed secretary-general of 18th CPC National Congress
BEIJING, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- A preparatory meeting of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) appointed Xi Jinping as secretary-general of the five-yearly event, a spokesman said Wednesday.

18th CPC National Congress spokesman to hold press conference
BEIJING, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Cai Mingzhao, spokesman of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), will hold a press conference on Wednesday afternoon at the Great Hall of the People in central Beijing, briefing the media on the upcoming national congress.
Cai will introduce to the press the agenda for the upcoming 18th CPC National Congress at around 4:30 p.m. and answer questions from domestic and overseas media. Full story
All 38 delegations arrive in Beijing for CPC congress
BEIJING, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- All 38 delegations to the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) had arrived in Beijing by Tuesday evening for the upcoming political event.
More than 2,200 delegates, chosen from more than 82 million CPC members across the nation, will attend the five-yearly congress, which is scheduled to open Thursday. Full story
