BEIJING, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni exchanged messages of congratulations Thursday to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations.
China and Uganda have maintained sincere and friendly ties and treated each other fairly over the past half century, Hu said.
The friendly cooperative ties between the two countries have weathered the test of the changing international situation and the friendship between the two peoples have deepened day by day, he said.
The two sides have strengthened political mutual trust and supported each other on major issues concerning their core interests in recent years, Hu said.
Both sides also have carried out active cooperation in the areas of economy and trade, infrastructure construction, energy, education and health care, which benefited the two peoples, the Chinese president said.
In addition, China and Uganda have kept open communication and smooth coordination on major international and regional affairs and guaranteed the common interests of the developing countries, Hu said.
The Chinese side cherishes the friendship with Uganda and is ready to take the golden jubilee as a new starting point and make joint efforts with Uganda to further enhance exchanges, boost mutual trust, deepen reciprocal cooperation in all fiends and push forward the China-Uganda friendly cooperative ties to a new stage, he said.
Museveni also highlighted the fruitful cooperation between Uganda and China on trade, investment, telecommunications, agriculture, science and technology and culture in his message to Hu.
He said the two countries have common ground on many world and regional issues.
Museveni hoped the two countries could take the opportunity of the 50th anniversary to further consolidate and beef up friendly cooperation.
Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and Uganda counterpart Sam Kutesa also exchanged congratulations Thursday.
