XI'AN, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Twelve people have been confirmed dead and 24 injured in fire at a construction site Wednesday in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, local authorities said.
The fire broke out at the dormitory area in a water-diversion project construction site in Zhouzhi County at 5:30 a.m., the county's publicity office said in a statement.
Of the injured, 22 are still under medical treatment and two have been discharged from hospital for slight injuries, officials at the fire site told Xinhua.
The workers are from the tunnel engineering subsidiary of China Railway 18th Bureau Group. Co. Ltd..
