BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leader Li Changchun on Friday called for artists to craft more works of excellency to be loved by the people.
Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the comments when viewing a ballet performance of "Xiao Mei Ren Yu," or "The Little Mermaid," at Tianqiao Theater in Beijing.
Li praised the work for its beautiful staging, outstanding performance and artistic quality.
He said he hopes artists in the nation could carry on domestic cultural traditions and draw on other nations' achievements to contribute more to cultural prosperity.
