Chinese FM meets Cambodian, Sudanese, Algerian officials on bilateral ties

UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met here Wednesday with top officials from Cambodia, Sudan and Algeria and exchanged views on bilateral ties on the sidelines of the 67th session of the U.N. General Assembly.

In his meeting with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hor Nam hong, Yang said China and Cambodia have been enjoying long-time friendship.

"China is willing to work with Cambodia to keep the momentum of mutual visits between high-ranking officials, promote trade and economic cooperation, step up cooperation and coordination in regional and international affairs, and further increase the development level of bilateral relations," he said.

Hor Nam hong, for his part, said Cambodia attaches great importance to its relations with China and is willing to enhance pragmatic cooperation between the two countries.

"Cambodia and China shared similar positions on a lot of regional and international issues," he said. "Cambodia will continue to closely work with China and expand their common interests."

In his meeting with Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Ali Karti, Yang said China cherishes its traditional friendship with Sudan. At present, mutual political trust between the two countries has increased.

"China will, as always, support the efforts of Sudan in safeguarding its national stability, realizing national reconciliation and developing economy so as to promote the friendly cooperative relations to develop more comprehensively and deeply," he said.

Karti offered his gratitude to China's support for his country's economic and social development, saying that Sudan will further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China in all areas and promote the bilateral ties to achieve new progress.

While meeting his Algerian counterpart Mourad Medelci, Yang said the relations between China and Algeria have maintained a good momentum of fast development with increased mutual understanding and trust as well as rich fruit of pragmatic cooperation.

"China is willing to further enhance with Algeria high-level exchanges, tap cooperation potential, enhance communication and coordination in order to bring the strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries to a new level," he said.

Medelci spoke highly of the positive progress of the bilateral relations, expressing his hope that China will further increase investment in Algeria.
