CHENGDU, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo on Wednesday hailed the growing influence of the Western China International Fair (WCIF) and the Western China International Cooperation Forum when delivering a keynote speech at the forum in Chengdu on Wednesday.
Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, said the events had drawn wide attention from home and abroad since they were initiated.
The events have developed into an important platform for boosting economic cooperation between western China and the outside world, Wu said, adding they are also significant windows showcasing the economic and social achievements of western China.
Wu said today's western China creates not only potential for China's growth but also opportunities for the rest of the world, especially the Pan-Asian countries, to enhance their economic and trade cooperation with China.
Wu said China will take further measures to push forward the western development strategy.
The WCIF was first held in 2000 with the progress of global economic integration and China's implementation of the western development strategy.
Having been held in the capital of southwest Sichuan Province for 12 consecutive years, the WCIF is attended by more than 80,000 officials and business people this year.
The cooperation forum was created in 2008. It was jointly carried out by the organizing committee of the WCIF and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) since 2011.
