BEIJING, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu on Tuesday called on police authorities at all levels to work hard to ensure safety during the upcoming eight-day national holiday.

Meng made the comments during a video conference held ahead of the holidays to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival on Sunday and the National Day on Oct. 1.

The police chief expressed the hope that police authorities will turn their successful experiences into assets for all police in order to help upgrade their overall capabilities.

Meng stressed that efforts must be made to prevent major road and fire accidents and other accidents concerning public security during the holidays.

Meng added that the management of major activities attended by the public should be strengthened so as to avoid serious accidents.
