BEIJING, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- China and Russia will work closely together to push for success in the upcoming 17th regular meeting between the two countries' prime ministers and the prime ministers' meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Premier Wen Jiabao said Saturday.
In face of the complex and delicate international situation, China and Russia have worked closely together in addressing various challenges and have made progress in their comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination, Wen said during a telephone conversation with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
The two countries must keep close communications and coordination to push for success in the two upcoming meetings, safeguard their common interests, and promote peace, cooperation and prosperity in the region, Wen said.
Medvedev, for his part, said the two countries are friendly neighbors and that Russia attaches great importance to its relations with China.
Russia is ready to work together with China and, through the two meetings, to raise bilateral relations to a new level, he said.
The SCO, which was founded in Shanghai in 2001, currently has six full members, including China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
