BEIJING, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leaders on Tuesday called for the nation's political advisors to study social management and offer political advice in this regard.

Jia Qinglin, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, made the call at a symposium held by the CPPCC National Committee in Beijing.

Zhou Yongkang, secretary of the Political Science and Law Committee of the CPC Central Committee, also attended the symposium and delivered a speech.

Jia said strengthening and becoming more innovative in social management is a strategic task the CPC Central Committee has envisioned for the long-term cause of building socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Social management poses a pressing task as China faces many strategic opportunities as well as social conflicts that keep popping up, Jia said. The current profound economic reforms, and the changes in social structure, social ethos and patterns of interest distribution give rise to numerous problems in the realm of social management.

Jia called for political advisors to assist the CPC and governments at various levels to tackle problems that threaten social stability.

Political advisors are also urged to carry out in-depth investigation centering on topics such as improving people's livelihood, bolstering grass-roots social management, among other topics.

Zhou Yongkang expressed appreciation to CPPCC members at all levels for their efforts made in offering proposals and suggestions on social management over recent years.

Zhou outlined future goals, including systematically designing China's social management work, and further improving people's livelihoods so that social management serves and unites the people.

Other goals include stimulating social vigor to make sure social management is participated in by everyone, making all social services available in grass-roots communities in both urban and rural areas, as well as strengthening the rule of law during the process of social management.
