GUIZHOU, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has urged Guizhou, an underdeveloped province with many ethnic groups, to strengthen and innovate social management methods to boost the region's leap-forward development.
Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the comments during a recent inspection tour in southwest China's Guizhou.
While visiting a community center in the city of Anshun, Zhou called upon grassroots Party and government departments to play a key role in social management by strengthening their function to serve and satisfy the people.
The community center has been known for its officials and employees visiting residents' homes to help solve their difficulties.
Zhou, who is also secretary of the Political Science and Law Committee of the CPC Central Committee, said services for special groups was a key part of social management, citing drug rehabilitation as well as education and support released prisoners.
While visiting a drug rehab center, Zhou encouraged addicts to wean themselves from drugs and return to society to lead normal lives as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Zhou called on enterprises in the province to exert more efforts to train able people and attract overseas talent, who will usually bring along high and innovative technology that can be used in various industries.
In addition, Zhou urged the local government to map out new policies to back regional development and called for great efforts in poverty relief.
