BEIJING, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- China's Foreign Ministry spokesman said Friday that all Chinese, including people from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, have the responsibility to safeguard China's sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands.
The Diaoyu Islands and the affiliated islets have been the inherent territory of China since ancient times, Hong Lei said at the ministry's daily press conference.

BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government's determination to safeguard its sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands is unswerving, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said Wednesday.
Hong made the comment in response to media reports that the Japanese government has decided to buy the islets for 2.05 billion yen (26.15 million U.S. dollars) from the islands' Japanese private owners. Full story
China opposes application of U.S.-Japan security treaty to Diaoyu Islands
WASHINGTON, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- China strongly opposes any application of the U.S.-Japan security treaty to China's Diaoyu Islands, a visiting senior Chinese military official told his U.S. colleagues here on Friday.
During meetings with senior U.S. military and government officials, Cai Yingting, deputy chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, expressed China's strong concerns over issues related to China's vital and core interests, including the U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, the territorial disputes over South China Sea and the Diaoyu Islands, and U.S. close-range military reconnaissance activities directed at China.
