BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- China's marine forecasting agency on Monday warned of storm surges and huge waves along the country's eastern and northern coasts as Typhoon Bolaven approaches.
The center of Bolaven, the 15th typhoon of the season, was located 525 km southeast of the coast of east China's Zhejiang Province on Monday morning, said a statement from the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center.
The center issued a yellow alert for storm surges, calling for storm surges between 50 to 150 centimeters along the coast between Shandong and Zhejiang provinces.
The center also detected 10-meter-high waves in the East China Sea at 6 a.m. Monday.
The station maintained its orange alert on sea waves, saying from mid-Monday to Tuesday, the northern part of the East China Sea and the southern part of the Yellow Sea will see waves 9 to 12 meters high.
The center uses a four-tier color-coded warning system, with red being the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
Considering the vulnerability of China's north coast in withstanding typhoons, the station warned local authorities to reinforce coastal facilities and intensify safety checks.
Meanwhile, Typhoon Tembin, the 14th typhoon of the season, remains likely to affect Fujian and Zhejiang provinces in next few days, as it is slowly moving northeast, the station said.
Tembin and Bolaven have formed a new round of dual-typhoons set to impact China's coasts. Earlier this month, Damrey and Saola left eight people dead and forced about 1.3 million residents in coastal regions to be relocated as of Aug. 5.
SHENYANG, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Typhoon Bolaven is expected to make landfall in northeast China's Liaoning province on Tuesday, the meteorological center of the city of Shenyang said Monday.
The center issued a yellow alert for Bolaven on Monday morning, the second-highest level in the country's four-tier color-coded weather warning system, predicting the severe typhoon will land in the city of Dandong in Liaoning and the northwestern region of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Tuesday evening.
