BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- China's double Olympic gold medalist Sun Yang vowed on Friday to work hard for greater success.

The 20-year-old swimmer made a big splash in the London Olympics when he claimed gold in both men's 400m and 1,500m freestyle. He also broke his own world record in the latter discipline.

"As a Chinese saying puts it, 'All starts from scratch when you step down from the podium,' What I've achieved in London will become a motivation for me," Sun said when addressing a meeting held at the Great Hall of the People to honor the Chinese mainland's delegation to the London Olympics.

"I hope that I, along with my teammates, regard the London Games as a new starting point and continue to train hard in the future, setting a good example for Chinese youth and making contribution to the development of Chinese swimming."

The Chinese mainland won 38 gold medals, 27 silver medals and 23 bronze medals at the July 27-Aug. 12 London Games, finishing second only to the United States in the medals table.
