BEIJING, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leader Jia Qinglin on Thursday said political consultative work should focus on offering the government more suggestions on how to maintain steady and relatively fast growth amid global economic crisis.
Jia made the remarks in a speech at the conclusion of a plenary session of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top political advisory body.
The session has received more than 180 research reports from the members of the CPPCC National Committee on various issues related to the nation's economic and social development.
The national economy generally maintained steady and healthy development during the first five months of this year, but the lingering global economic crisis is exerting downward pressure for future economic development, said Jia, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee.
