BEIJING, June 13 (Xinhua) -- The international community should fully support special envoy Kofi Annan's efforts on the Syria issue and adhere to the political path, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Wednesday.

Yang reaffirmed China's stand in a telephone conversation with Annan, the UN-Arab League joint special envoy, who briefed Yang about the idea of calling an international conference on the Syria issue and creating a "contact group."

The move, said the envoy, is aimed at implementing related UN Security Council resolutions and facilitating a political solution to the Syria crisis.

Yang, for his part, expounded China's principles and stance and spoke highly of Annan's efforts and proposals in finding a political solution to the Syria issue.

China, he said, maintains that the international community should stick to the political course and give full support to the special envoy's mediation efforts so as to carry out related UN Security Council resolutions and Annan's six-point proposal.

China is willing to continue working with the special envoy and relevant parties to seek a proper settlement of the Syria issue, he said.
