BEIJING, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met with visiting Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev at the Great Hall of the People on Wednesday to discuss bilateral ties.

Xi said since the establishment of diplomatic relations 20 years ago, relations between China and Kazakhstan have developed rapidly in an all-around manner.

He said the two nations firmly support each other on major issues concerning their respective core interests and make close coordination and cooperation on international and regional affairs to safeguard the common interests of the two states and promote peace, stability and development in the region as well as that of the world at large.

Xi said the Chinese side is ready to join hands with Kazakhstan to contribute to developing a long-term stable, vigorous comprehensive strategic partnership.

Xi said both sides should expand the bilateral trade scale, promote cooperation on major strategic projects, carry out cooperation at local levels, and work for a good environment for bilateral cooperation and cement the foundation of pubic opinion for bilateral cooperation.

Moreover, China and Kazakhstan should further enhance cooperation in international and regional affairs so as to safeguard the common interests of the two nations and contribute to the world peace, stability and development, he added.

For his part, Nazarbayev said the two nations will further enhance cooperation in such fields as economy and trade, energy, railways and high technology, and strengthen coordination in multilateral international organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to push bilateral ties to a new level.

Nazarbayev also reiterated that his country adheres to the one-China policy and supports China's efforts to crack down on the "three evil forces" of terrorism, separatism and extremism.

Nazarbayev arrived in Beijing on Tuesday afternoon to visit China and attend SCO summit in Beijing.

During his visit, which he is making as a guest of Chinese President Hu Jintao, Nazarbayev will attend the 12th Meeting of the Council of Heads of Member States of the SCO in Beijing from Wednesday to Thursday.
