HAVANA, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Senior Cuban and Chinese officials pledged on Thursday to carry out more pragmatic cooperation to advance bilateral ties in the coming years.

The pledge was made during a meeting between Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, second secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba's (PCC) Central Committee and visiting Chinese official Hu Chunhua, a member of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Central Committee.

The PCC is ready to carry out in-depth exchanges with the CPC so as to advance pragmatic cooperation in various fields and promote comprehensive development of bilateral ties, said Machado, also first vice-president of the Council of State and Council of Ministers in Cuba.

Hu, for his part, said the two countries have always understood and supported each other in the cause of building socialism, safeguarding world peace and promoting common development since they established diplomatic ties more than 50 years ago.

The CPC is willing to work with the PCC to enhance party-to-party exchanges and cooperation, said Hu, also Communist Party chief of China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

At the invitation of the PCC, Hu arrived here Tuesday with a CPC delegation for a good-will visit.
