UNITED NATIONS, May 15 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday urged all parties in Bosnia and Herzegovina to resolve their differences through dialogue in order to make accelerated progress in all areas.
The remarks came as Wang Min, Chinese deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, addressed an open UN Security Council meeting on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Wang commended Bosnia and Herzegovina for progress made in safeguarding peace, achieving national reconciliation, reconstructing its economy and enhancing its building of the rule of law.
China respects the independence, sovereignty, national unity and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as the choice made by its people for the future of their country, said the Chinese diplomat.
"We hope that the many ethnicities in Bosnia and Herzegovina will proceed from the well-being and long-term interest of the country, resolve their differences through dialogue, enhance political mutual trust and promote national reconciliation, implement comprehensively Dayton-Paris Peace Accord, and work towards accelerated progress in all areas," Wang said.
The Chinese diplomat also welcomed the efforts made by Valentin Inzko, the UN high representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, in promoting the political process in the country.
"We hope that in accordance with his mandate, he would continue to play a positive and constructive role in implementing the Dayton Peace Agreement," said Wang.
Wang added that the question of Bosnia and Herzegovina is very complex and sensitive, urging the international community to exercise prudence when dealing with the issue and listen attentively to various views and concerns of relevant parties in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
