BEIJING, March 11 (Xinhua) -- China's chief justice Wang Shengjun delivered a report on the work of the Supreme People's Court at a meeting of the annual parliamentary session Sunday afternoon.
Chinese leaders Hu Jintao, Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang attended the plenary meeting of the Fifth Session of the 11th National People's Congress.

1 million convicted last year as China toughens crackdown on crimes
BEIJING, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese courts convicted 1.05 million people last year in its drive to punish crimes and safeguard stability, 4.4 percent more than in 2010, according to a report from China's supreme court Sunday.
The courts concluded 840,000 criminal cases in 2011, up 7.7 percent from 2010, said the report on the work of the Supreme People's Court, delivered by chief justice Wang Shengjun at a meeting of the ongoing annual parliamentary session. Full story
Chinese courts handle 25 percent fewer petitions in 2011: chief justice
BEIJING, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese courts at all levels handled 790,000 cases of petitions and complaints in 2011, a year-on-year drop of 25.9 percent, Chief Justice Wang Shengjun said Sunday.

Chinese courts strengthen coercive implementation of judgement
BEIJING, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese courts of all levels have stepped up efforts in coercively implementing the judgement of concluded cases to safeguard the rights of prevailing parties, China's chief justice said Sunday.

China's judiciary fights IPR violations
BEIJING, March 11 (Xinhua) -- The number of lawsuits over intellectual property rights (IPR) violations that were closed by Chinese courts last year increased by 37.7 percent year-on-year, according to a report from the Supreme People's Court (SPC) on Sunday.
Chinese courts closed a total of 66,000 lawsuits involving IPR violations in 2011, said the report on the work of the SPC, which was delivered by Chief Justice Wang Shengjun at a meeting of the annual parliamentary session. Full story
