Convictions in Chinese soccer trials

DANDONG, Northeast China, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Nine people and one company were convicted in Chinese soccer corruption trials here on Thursday morning:

Lu Feng, former manager of the Chinese Football Association (CFA) Super League Company - convicted of bribe-taking as non-state staff; sentenced to six years and six months in jail; had personal property worth 150,000 yuan (about 23,820 U.S. dollars) confiscated.

Huang Junjie, former soccer referee - convicted of bribe-taking as non-state staff; sentenced to seven years in jail; had personal property worth 200,000 yuan (about 31,760 U.S. dollars) confiscated.

Wan Daxue, former soccer referee - convicted of bribe-taking as non-state staff; sentenced to six years in jail; had personal property worth 150,000 yuan (about 23,820 U.S. dollars) confiscated.

Lu Jun, former soccer referee and China's "Golden Whistle" - convicted of bribe-taking as non-state staff; sentenced to five years and six months in jail; had personal property worth 100,000 yuan (about 15,880 U.S. dollars) confiscated.

Zhou Weixin, former soccer referee - convicted of both bribing and bribe-taking as non-state staff; sentenced to three years and six months in jail.

Yang Feng, former CFA Super League Company official - convicted of bribe-taking as non-state staff; sentenced to two years in jail.

Zhang Zujian - former CFA Super League Company official - convicted of bribe-taking as non-state staff; didn't receive jail term.

Zhongyi Sports Development Co. Ltd. - convicted of bribing; fined 3 million yuan (about 476,400 U.S. dollars).

Sun Jie, former staff of Zhongyi Sports Development Co. Ltd. - convicted of bribing as non-state staff; sentenced to one and a half years in jail.

Li Donghong, former staff of Zhongyi Sports Development Co. Ltd. - convicted of bribing as non-state staff; sentenced to one year in jail.

DANDONG, Northeast China, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- A northeast Chinese court sentenced former soccer referee Lu Jun to five and a half years in jail for accepting bribes.

The court also ordered the confiscation of personal property worth 100,000 RMB (about 15,870 U.S. dollars). Full story

Corrupt ref Huang Junjie sentenced to 7 years in prison and confiscation of his personal property 31,760 USD

DANDONG, Northeast China, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Former soccer referee Huang Junjie was sentenced to seven years in prison and confiscation of his personal property 200,000 RMB (about 31,760 U.S. dollars).

Huang used to be one of the best-known soccer referees in China. He had a more than 20-year-long career and was certified as an international level referee in 1998. Full story

Another dozen stand trials involving soccer corruption

TIELING, Liaoning Province, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Another former Chinese soccer official and a batch of club managers and referees stood trials at local courts in northeast China's Liaoning Province Tuesday and Wednesday, said sources from the Supreme People's Court.

The Intermediate People's Court of Tieling and the Intermediate People' s Court of Dandong, both in Liaoning Province, started trials to these people, amid the weeklong trial sessions initiated by the country in an effort to clean up its soccer circle.Full story

Former club manager and refs on trial for soccer corruption

TIELING, Liaoning Province, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- A former soccer club manager was put on trial Tuesday morning as the first round of Chinese soccer corruption trials went into the second day.

Two soccer referees will also appear before the Intermediate People's Court of Dandong in another Liaoning city later on Tuesday. Full story

Lack of sound supervision is root of football scandals

BEIJING, April 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Corruption in sports is nothing new. The problem stems from a lack of sound supervision. Thus, an effective supervision mechanism needs to be set up.
