TOKYO, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Nikkei moved 0.24 percent lower on the first trading day of 2015.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 42.06 points, from Dec. 30 at 17,408.71.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 6.42 points, or 0.46 percent, lower at 1, 401.09.
Major decliners included mining, food and brokerage issues.
The turnover was 1,906.4 billion yen (about 15.81 billion U.S. dollars).
