Indonesia sees narrowing deficit in 2014: finance chief

English.news.cn   2014-12-09 19:17:56

JAKARTA, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian Finance Minister Bambang Bridjonegoro said on Tuesday that he is upbeat over the state budget deficit, which was registered below 2.4 percent of the GDP this year.

"The state budget deficit 2014 is below 2.4 percent," Bambang said at the Custom Office.

However, the minister failed to elaborate further on the precise figure.

Bambang has previously said the decline on global oil prices contributes on the narrowing of the deficit gap.

Indonesia, a net-oil importer country, provides a huge oil subsidy.

It rose subsidized-fuel prices on Nov. 18 by nearly 31 percent, which may trim the import.

The reduction on the subsidy frees more fiscal spaces for President Joko Widodo to build infrastructures and allocate more funds to other purposes at the next year's state budget.

Besides, the president has secured other funds from the slash of budget for travels and meetings of officials amid expectation of higher tax earnings.

The president aims at a over 7-percent GDP within the three years, compared with this year's growth expectation of 5.2 to 5.3 percent.
