LONDON, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Bentley Motors, a British luxury car brand, has announced 40 million pounds (about 63 million U.S. dollars) investment into its headquarters in Crewe, Northeast England.
A further 40 million pounds of investment will be used to expand its headquarters in Crewe, with a new research and development center, creating over 300 jobs in the process, said Bentley in a press release on Thursday.
The new center, measuring over 45,000 square meters, will include a dedicated styling studio, research and development offices and a technical workshop, introduced Bentley.
The facilities will house 1,300 Bentley engineers and is the latest step in preparing Bentley's infrastructure to bring the world's first ultra-luxury SUV to roads in 2016, it noted.
George Osborne, British Chancellor of the Exchequer, said during his visit to Bentley: "The investment will not only create jobs at Bentley, but support many more through suppliers across the UK."
Bentley, which was acquired by Germany's Volkswagen AG in 1998, delivered a record 10,120 cars in 2013, and it expects to break that figure in 2014. The company also committed to an 800 million pounds investment over three years in product and facility development, with this announcement driving the investment to 840 million pounds.
Work on the new developments will commence early next year. (1 pound = 1.57 U.S. dollars)
