TOKYO, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened modestly higher Friday on buying encouraged by yen's further depreciation against the U.S. dollar.
At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 86.94 points, or 0.55 percent, from Thursday to 15,763.12.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 4.97 points, or 0.38 percent, at 1,301. 36.
Export-led automaker and high-tech sectors led the gain. Other major gainers included construction as well as glass and ceramics issues.
