TOKYO, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened slightly higher early on Monday morning as market sentiment was lifted by pre- weekend Wall Street gains.
At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 29.62 points, or 0.19 percent, from Friday to 15,454.21.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 2.38 points, or 0.19 percent, to 1,280. 35.
Major gainers included steel, glass and ceramics as well as pulp and paper shares.
