BRUSSELS, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Economic sentiment fell to its lowest level this year in the 18-member eurozone in August, according to figures released by European Commission on Thursday.
The Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) for eurozone fell by 1.5 points to 100.6, back to the level of last December,the European Commission said.
The worsened sentiment resulted from deterioration in retail trade, consumer, industry, and, to a lesser extent, services confidence. Construction confidence remained broadly unchanged.
Among the largest euro area economies, sentiment dropped significantly in Italy and Germany. Milder contractions were booked also in France and the Netherlands. while sentiment remained flat in Spain.
