SINGAPORE, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's Changi Airport handled 4.58 million passengers in July, up 1 percent year on year, with passengers from China registering on-year increase for the first time this year, according to the latest figures released by the Changi Airport Group on Friday.

The increase in the number of passengers from China is fueled by strong growth in traffic to and from Shanghai, Nanjing, Haikou, Hangzhou and Qingdao, the group said.

Traffic to and from Northeast Asia and South Asia, including Hong Kong, India and Vietnam, registered strong double-digit growth. Due to political instability in Thailand, traffic between the two countries dropped by 12 percent year-on-year, the ninth consecutive month of decline.

Between January and July, the airport handled 31.8 million passengers, a 1.3-percent increase from the same period a year ago. The number of aircraft landings and take-offs grew by 3.6 percent to 199,900.
