TOKYO, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks surged 1.13 percent Friday, with its benchmark the Nikkei stock index ending at a six- month high following yen's depreciation.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 173.45 points, from Thursday at 15,457.87, its highest level since Jan. 23.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 11.49 points, or 0.90 percent, to close at 1,281.35.
Major gainers included pulp and paper, construction as well as steel shares.
The turnover was 1,705.7 billion yen (about 16.76 billion U.S. dollars).
