FRANKFURT, July 16 (Xinhua) -- The benchmark DAX index at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Wednesday climbed by 1.44 percent and closed above 9800 points.
The DAX index advanced markedly as the National Bureau of Statistics of China confirmed that the Chinese economy grew by 7.5 percent in the second quarter this year. The DAX index closed at 9859.27 points.
The majority of the DAX shares went up on Wednesday. The semiconductor and system solutions provider Infineon Technologies AG was the biggest winner with an increase of 4 percent. Deutsche Lufthansa AG gained 3.07 percent.
The fertilizer company K+S Aktiengesellschaft and the chemical and pharmaceutical company Merck KGaA were the only losers on Wednesday, down by 0.36 percent and 0.34 percent respectively.
Deutsche Bank AG continued to be the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 251.63 million euros (around 342.23 million U.S. dollars).
The turnover of the exchange for the day was 2.6 billion euros.
