WARSAW, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Representatives of a few dozen Italian construction businesses are in Poland to seek partners and prospective contracts involving road, railway and environmental projects and met with Polish administration and business people on Wednesday.
The talks were organized by the Italian National Association of Construction Companies (ANCE), the Italian Trade Agency, the Italian Embassy in Poland and Italy's Economy Ministry.
The aim of the mission is to present business opportunities in the Polish construction sector, according to Gerardo Biancofiore, president of the international group of small and medium-sized businesses in ANCE.
He pointed out that Italian companies won orders worth 1.3 billion euros(1.76 billion U.S. dollars) in Poland in 2012. Italian contractors now see an opportunity in taking advantage of the funds flowing into Poland under the European Union's new financial perspective by taking part in tenders.
"The fundamental thing is to find a local partner. There are companies here that operate in installation, engineering and design," Biancofiore said, adding that Poland would have several dozen billion euros to spend on infrastructure and environmental projects.
Giuseppe Federico, head of the Warsaw office of the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade (ICE), said that Italian entrepreneurs should cooperate with companies from Poland, pursue integration in logistics and exchange experience.
Italy is the fifth-largest foreign investor in Poland, having invested almost 10 billion euros by the end of 2012. There are about 1,000 Italian entrepreneurs operating in Poland.
In Poland, Italians invest mainly in the automotive, household appliance, paper making, food processing, chemical, construction and meat industries as well as services.
