TIRANA, May 22 (Xinhua) -- European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide 60 million euros (about 82 million U.S. dollars) to support small and medium-sized businesses in the Western Balkans, according to the ATA news agency.

EBRD Western Balkans director Claudio Viezzoli said Wednesday the funds would be disbursed over a two-year period to support small and medium-sized enterprises' (SMEs) technical development and innovative projects.

Viezzoli made the announcement during a presentation on the Enterprise Expansion Fund, which supports private companies operating in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Kosovo and Montenegro, at a time when businesses in the region are facing financial difficulties.

Since the beginning of its operation in the Albanian market, the EBRD has invested more than 700 million euros (957 million dollars) in different sectors.
