CHICAGO, May 15 (Xinhua) -- General Motors Co.(GM) announced on its website Thursday it is recalling 2.7 million vehicles in the United States in five seperate safety events as the fallout from its growing auto safety crisis continues.

The Detroit-based automaker is recalling 2.44 million passenger cars due to tail lamp problems, 111,000 Chevrolet Corvettes due to loss of low-beam head lamps, 140,000 2014 Chevrolet Malibus due to hydraulic brake booster malfunctions, and 19,225 Cadillac CTS 2013-14 models due to windshield wiper failures, among others.

Auto recalls since April 1 would cost the automaker an additional 200 million dollars, the company said.

In the first quarter of 2014 alone, the company has spent 1.3 billion dollars to account for its recall of 2.6 million vehicles due to ignition switch defects linked to 13 deaths and 32 crashes.

Before January 2009, when 13 crashes and two injuries were reported, GM was aware of several hundred complaints as result of the condition but no crashes, injuries or fatalities.
