SEOUL, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's industrial output rose last year as solid production in the service industry offset reduction in manufacturing activities, a government report showed Wednesday.

Production in all industries increased 1.3 percent in 2013 from a year earlier after rising 1 percent in the previous year, according to Statistics Korea.

Output in the mining and manufacturing industries reduced 0.1 percent on year in 2013, the first decline in four years.

Sluggish activities in the machinery equipment and communication sectors ate up a rise in production of chips, parts and chemicals, the statistical agency said.

Production in the service industry expanded 1.3 percent in 2013 from a year earlier, offsetting a decline in the mining and manufacturing sectors.

Retail sales increased 0.7 percent on year in 2013, but facility investment decreased 5 percent last year.
