TOKYO, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks lost ground by midday Thursday as investors tended to lock in profits ahead of U.S. jobs data for December to be released on Friday.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average plunged 206.91 points, or 1. 28 percent, from Wednesday to 15,914.54.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 8.32 points, or 0.64 percent, to 1, 297.91.
Decliners were led by paper and pulp, air transport, bank and food shares.
